Saint-Gobain Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Akila to Achieve Carbon Objectives by 2030

2024-08-27

On July 1, Saint-Gobain China Investment Co. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Akila, a leading digital twin data platform, at the APAC Regional Office to collaborate on reducing carbon emissions across the APAC region.

The collaboration builds on the success of Akila's recent project at our APAC R&D Center in 2022, where the deployment of advanced digital energy monitoring and HVAC optimization solutions resulted in an 18% decrease in overall energy costs.

This time, Saint-Gobain APAC will continue to deepen the cooperation with Akila in two major aspects. Firstly, Akila will continue to help us optimize our carbon emissions across the region to achieve a 33% reduction (scope 1 & scope 2) in carbon emissions by 2030. The cooperation will be executed in two key phases: 1) deployment of Akila’s digitalized energy management system in the APAC region, and 2) implementation of Akila’s optimization solutions, tailored to the processes of each site, to significantly reduce the carbon footprint across the region. In addition, Saint-Gobain and Akila will explore the development of a cutting-edge offer that combines Saint-Gobain's lightweight sustainable materials and Akila’s digital twin technologies, driving innovation and efficiency in the construction industry.

Ludovic Weber, CEO of Saint-Gobain Asia Pacific Region, commented: "We share a common vision and strategy with Akila, which was the driving force behind this collaboration. The digital tools provided by Akila are key to achieving the CO2 reduction by one-third by 2030 compared to 2017 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Furthermore, these tools play an important role in promoting sustainability in buildings, making them an essential pillar of our sustainability efforts."

As the worldwide leader in light and sustainable construction, Saint-Gobain has demonstrated its strong leadership and sense of responsibility through its cooperation with partners, including Akila. In the future, we will continue to explore further opportunities for cooperation towards a more sustainable future.
